The History of Evelyn: Creation According to the Magi

As the Magi wrapped their fingers around a firm grip of the world and took their place as the predominant order of migick-users on the continent of Mizrah, a force began to rise in the areas south of the south of Mizrah in an ancient land that civilization had not yet touched. A power so great and so dark, that there were none that had yet lived who understood it.

The Creation of the Universe:

according to the Magi

From Nothing

In the beginning, there was only the void. Eventually, the void would coalesce and

become aware of itself. This was the first form of intelligence. As the void came together, it became both the Darkness, and Nothing. Yet, where their is intelligence, there cannot be nothing. Therefore, it came to pass, that the Darkness, having its first thought gave birth the first kindling of what would come to be, the Light.

Though birthed from the thoughts of The Darkness, The Light came to represent all that is opposite of the Dark. Where the Dark was cold, the Light was warm. Where the Dark was void, the Light was full. And where the Dark was nothing, the Light would become everything.

The Coming of the Light

As the Light became more and more excited and boastful, it also became lonely and idealistic. Therefore it came to pass that the Light, feeling enthusiastic and quite content, grew itself and began to take different forms and shapes. The first stars and celestial bodies began to take shape.

From these first celestial entities, the first elements began to emerge into existence and soon these elements would come together around a star and whirl around in dance that would eventually lead to the formation of the first world. The Light itself imbued this world with its own essence giving it power, passion, and a spark of its raw power.

The spark of light that was inherited by the world, melted the ice blankets of the world creating the first oceans. From the oceans, rose along with the storms, the winds, and the light that created the days. It was from this fertile and lush time that the first flora and fauna sprang into the world.

The Jealousy of the Dark

As the first world became teaming with life, the Dark, the entity from which all things came into existence grew jealous of the creations of the Light.

The light maintained a close relationship with its creation and for the first eons of the world, there was no night and the first life enjoyed the warmth and bounty of constant daytime. It wasn't until the first civilizations began to worship the light as their one true God, that the Dark would no longer allow this to abide.

From the depths of the cosmos, the Dark summoned a large piece of rock and hurled it toward the world. While the Light did attempt to prevent the complete destruction of its world, all of its attempts went in vein. Grandmaster Iman Ra, a Priory Scholar would coin this event, the Doom of the First World.

As the enormous rock hit the world it killed everything that lived on the world. It did not, however, completely destroy the world or the spark within it. The massive collection of debris left over from the impact swirled around the world creating the moon (or the first two moons depending on the tradition you accept). What was left over of the first world began to spin from the impact of the asteroid and eventually, the Light set to repairing the damage and remaking the new world.

The New World

Now with it's spin, the world would experience night at day, and because of the new tilt of its axis, it would experience times when the world would be hot, and times when it would be freezing cold. As the world was renewed and the seas took new form, areas where debris fell to the world and continents collided mountains sprouted from the ground into the heavens of the new world. Finally, the Light rejuvenated the spart of the world and brought forth new life.

As new life took to the world, the Dark refused to allow it to go unchallenged and from the dark corners of the shadows it brought forth the first beasts of the night. But, because the darkness did not create the spark of the world, the life it brought forth would always remain in as more of an apparition rather than a physical being.

The Age of the Light and the Celestial Gate

A time of conflict arose between spirits of the Dark and the life of the Light. Ages would pass where the Dark would make war upon the Light. Whole species of intelligent life would go extinct. Some would be driven mad and revert to being more wild. It was at this point the Light intervened to protect its creation.

It is here that different scholars will have different opinions. Some say that the Light came into the world and inhabited it though the piece of the world spark that lives within everything. Others say that the Light chose its champions and sacrificed the second moon of Evelyn to bring forth the power that some would be responsible for wielding against the dark. In either case, the light began to empower some of its most promising chosen beings to give all of creation a fighting change against the hordes of the Dark's spirit warriors.

Ages more would pass and the conflict would reach a stalemate. Through the spark of

life, the Light implored its chosen to construct a magickal doorway that would create a bridge between two realities that would exist simultaneously within and without each others. In the one realm would be the creation of the Light and in the other would dwell the creatures of the Dark. This doorway would become known as the Celestial Gate. Upon its completion, a final conflict ensued where the chosen would banish all of the Dark agents from their reality and seal the gate forever.

Eons would go on and eventually all knowledge of the location of the Celestial Gate would pass into legend and myth, or be forgotten entirely. And the beings of the world would thrive and multiply for a time.

The World Stone

The Light, having its purpose completed and its creation now protected took upon itself one final task. Either from the highest peak in all of Evelyn or from the fragmented remains of the world's second moon, the Light would create the World Stone, an artifact so unique that it is said that on the Light could truly wield its full power.

The light poured into the World Stone a warm reminder of the feeling of home and companionship with which it first created the world and sent the stone into the world. Those who had been chosen were drawn to its call with an undying need and yearning that could not be explained. Once they reached it, the stone would absorb their power and return them to the way of normal life, keeping the greatest power ever sent upon the world encapsulated within it so as to not disrupt the fragile balance that the world hung upon. But because of the Dark's lingering influence upon this world, this power would always be something that would be coveted.

Centuries would go on where the presence of the World Stone and the desire to dominate and control it would cause war, kin-slayings, and the rise of false Gods who would claim to know the secrets of the World Stone. Millions would seek to claim it for their own and millions more would die for it.

And so, the Light intervened once again and came to an Elven Prince known as Tylian of the last House of Mildarin. Tylian had fought in many wars including the Elven Campaigns for the World Stone. During that conflict is beloved wife was brutally murdered by men who wished to claim the World Stone for their own. He had been mourning for one hundred years when the Light called him. Through much trial and tribulation, Tylian would reach the World Stone and after weeks of traversing and evading capture from those who would stop his quest, he finally stood atop the World Stone. Injured, bloodied, and crying out the name of his beloved, he took up his sword, Lys'Bearer, thrust it up to the heavens and with a strike of lighting and the raw power of the light coursing through his blade, he struck the World Stone.

Thousands died rushing to stop him and they, along with Tylian himself were lost in the resulting explosion. The World Stone was no longer the great center piece of power that it once was and instead pieces of it were flung into the heavens and across the stars and the world itself. The sword Lys'Bearer was also lost to time, though for many ages, people would search for it, hoping that it would still bear the power of the Light within it, but all who search for it have done so in vein.

The Age of Legends

Finally, the struggles between the light and the dark were at an end and the Light would be able to rest and watch its creation flourish. This began the Age of Legends. Here, kingdoms would rise and fall, progress would be made, but the presence of the World Shards (remnant pieces of the World Stone) would forever leave a doorway open for beings of power to rise and after two and a half thousand years, magick would begin to find its way back into Evelyn.
