Damien hates mages. For years now he and his comrades in the Legion have fought to quell their rebellion and establish the justice of a humans-only empire. Driven forward by the memory of his mother, brutally murdered by a mage, he is blinded by his quest for vengeance. Once the rebellion ends, he is finally freed of his obligations to the Legion and can settle down with his betrothed. But, when he returns home, he finds her missing and as fate would have it, the Legion has been ordered to move in the last direction she was seen.
Kai is a sword for hire who has fallen on bad times. After being banished from his home village he is forced to head south to face his past lest he risk the curse that marks his chest overtaking him. It would be a fate worse than death.
